BRANSON, Missouri — Finney Injury Law has filed a lawsuit on behalf of three Jefferson County, Missouri families against the Grand Plaza Hotel in Branson, Missouri. The suit alleges that the hotel’s negligent actions, including the addition of hazardous chemicals to the pool while families were swimming, led to injuries to their children.”
What Occurred at a Branson, Missouri Hotel Pool?
During a Mother’s Day visit to Branson, Missouri, Jefferson County, MO, families opted to stay at the Grand Plaza Hotel while attending a youth baseball tournament. However, their stay took a dire turn when a hotel maintenance employee, disregarding explicit warnings on a commercial-grade pool cleaner’s label, added the chemical to the pool while guests were present. The label cautioned of fatal risks, irreversible eye damage, and skin burns and clearly stated that no one should be in the pool during the chemical application, as per the complaint.
Immediately following the addition of the pool shock chemicals, swimmers experienced severe adverse reactions, including burning eyes and skin, chest tightening, bloody noses, and vomiting. According to the lawsuit, several children required medical attention, with one young girl suffering permanent damage to her lungs and throat.
Failure to Warn and Inaccurate Documentation Prompt Lawsuit and Police Investigation
The lawsuit alleges that Grand Plaza Hotel’s maintenance staff neglected to provide warnings or instructions to families and other hotel guests when applying chemicals directly into the pool.
Further exacerbating the situation, a Branson Police Department investigation revealed that a hotel worker improperly documented pool treatments, administering shocks twice while guests were swimming but recording it as a single occurrence.
“This case is a prime example of pure negligence on the part of the Grand Plaza Hotel,” says Finney Injury Law attorney Chris Finney, representing the three families in the lawsuit. “Ignoring the clear safety warnings on pool chemical containers and maintaining inaccurate pool treatment records blatantly disregarded the health and safety of these young families.”
